Wands
King of Wands
Wands · king
A crowned figure sits on a throne of lions and salamanders, staff held with the ease of someone who expects the room to catch fire in a useful way. A small lizard flicks near the foot of the seat. The desert behind is open, which is not the same thing as empty of responsibility.

Upright, or the open face
The king is a style of action — visionary stewardship, a decision with a long arc — not a gender and not a cage labeled leader for the loudest person in the group. You set a direction and invite other wills into it instead of treating them as kindling. Authority looks like clarity, courage, and a real willingness to hear news that dents the plan. You can hold a wide view and still learn from the person closest to the work.
Reversed, or the pressured face
Pressured, the vision turns impatient, arrogant, or stalled because you will not risk being wrong where anyone can see it. You may dominate a group for its own good, which is a phrase that should make you suspicious, or abdicate and call the absence trust. Too much control and a delayed decision both leave people standing in the heat without a map; the crown is a practice; it comes off.
Questions
- What direction am I offering in words other people can actually use?
- Where do I need counsel before I decide, and have I asked for it?
- Am I leading, or am I collecting an audience for a mood?
A grounded example
You chair a volunteer committee that has circled the same park cleanup for months, gloriously. You open with a proposed date, a budget cap, and a question period that is not decorative. When a quiet member points out that the path is inaccessible, you change the route instead of defending the speech you rehearsed; the cleanup happens on a folding-chair kind of throne. The lions, if consulted, would have approved of the revision.
