Work and luck

An opportunity working

For applications, auditions, and doors you will actually knock on. Luck is not a substitute for the knock.

Prosperity magic that skips the email is daydreaming with soot. This working assumes there is a real opening: a job list, a grant, a client you could write to, a skill you could practice in public. If there is no opening, the rite is to make a list of openings, not to demand a miracle from a green candle.

Timing. When an opportunity is real and time-bound. Waxing moon optional.

Materials

  • One candle in any color you already own. Green is traditional in some modern craft and not required.
  • Paper.
  • A pen.
  • A timer.
  • The actual listing, form, or address.

Steps

  1. 1Print or open the real listing. If you will not apply, stop. Choose a different listing or admit you are afraid and do the confidence rite instead.
  2. 2Light the candle only if you can watch it. Otherwise use a lamp.
  3. 3Write your name and the one step: “I will submit the form tonight.”
  4. 4Read the step aloud. Set a timer for twenty minutes.
  5. 5Work on the application until the timer ends. The candle does not get to burn instead of you.
  6. 6Speak the words, then extinguish the light.
  7. 7Submit, send, or schedule before you call the rite finished. If a portal is down, write the next time you will try, tonight, on the paper.
I do not beg a stranger’s will. I make my work visible to the door that is actually open. Courage, be practical. Vanity, sit down.

Close. Recycle the paper when the outcome arrives, yes or no. A no is information. Do not burn a rejection in a dramatic way that sets off a smoke alarm.

The practical action, which is not optional if you want the rite to be honest. Submit the thing. Then tell one trustworthy person you did it, if telling is safe.
