Hearth

A kitchen hearth rite

Stirring a pot is enough fire. The food must still be safe to eat.

Kitchen practice is the art of meaning what you are already doing with hunger. It is not a reason to eat unidentified herbs, essential oils, or a spell jar.

Timing. Any meal. Not when you are too tired to cook safely; eat something ready instead and call that wisdom.

Materials

  • A meal you already know how to cook safely.
  • A pot or pan.
  • A wooden spoon or any spoon.
  • Ingredients you would serve a friend.
  • Hunger, ideally.

Steps

  1. 1Wash your hands.
  2. 2Name the intention in four words. Examples: “strength for the meeting,” “kindness in the house.”
  3. 3Cook as the recipe requires. If you stir, you may stir clockwise because it pleases you. The food does not fail if you stir the other way.
  4. 4Do not add ritual plants that are not culinary and identified. Bay leaf from the spice jar is food. A random garden leaf is not.
  5. 5Taste and salt like a person who intends to eat.
  6. 6Speak the words over the plate, briefly, then eat. Offer a portion to a housemate only if they want it.
  7. 7Clean the pot the same night if you can. A hexed sink is just a sink.
This meal is care with heat. It is not a charm against my problems. It is food, and I will let it be food.

Close. Leftovers go in the refrigerator within a sensible time, not on the altar overnight.

The practical action, which is not optional if you want the rite to be honest. Cook and eat the meal. If you promised the strength for a meeting, go to the meeting.
