King of Pentacles
Pentacles · king
A crowned figure sits on a throne carved with bulls, a coin balanced on the knee, vines and grapes around the seat and a castle visible behind. The robes are patterned like a fertile map; the posture is solid. The wealth is being administered, not merely displayed for the envy of the path.

Upright, or the open face
The king is a style of action — steady stewardship of resources, long-term provision, a calm head for material responsibility — not a gender and not a personality prison that says you must be the provider or else you must never ask for help. You build something that can outlast a mood: a small business, a household plan, a fund with rules. Success here includes generosity and books that match reality. You can be ambitious and still be a person others trust with the keys, which is a higher standard than looking successful from the road.
Reversed, or the pressured face
Turned over, the steadiness becomes stubborn greed, status panic, or neglect of the actual garden while you polish the image of having one. You may be reckless with money under a reliable mask, or so cautious that the enterprise never risks a living leaf; too much control and a delayed honesty about the numbers are the strains; provision is a practice. It is not a throne you inherit by temperament, and it does not excuse you from telling the truth about what the throne cost.
Questions
- What am I building that will still matter in five years, and to whom?
- Where are the real numbers, and when did I last look at them without a story?
- How do I share a harvest without making people smaller for receiving it?
A grounded example
On a Sunday you update the ledger for the tiny business you run from a folding table: what came in, what the materials cost, what you owe yourself as wages and have been pretending is optional. You notice you underpaid your own labor again, which is not humility; it is a hole. You correct the next invoice instead of correcting your worth with a speech. The bulls on the throne, consulted or not, would have approved of the arithmetic; arithmetic is the crown that stays on.
