Element

Center

Sometimes called spirit. Here it means the person who can stop the rite.

Some teachers add a fifth element, spirit, at the center of the circle. Used well, it means purpose and presence. Used badly, it becomes a rank: someone is more spiritual than someone else, often the person who talks the most. In this library the center is the practitioner’s agency. The person who can say stop is the center, even if they have said nothing mystical all year.

I am the one who begins and the one who ends. No mood outranks that.
